Project Management

The project management of the Re-mapping project is based on sound scientific collaborations between the FISPPA department of the University of Padova, which is the host institution and the coordinator of the Re-mapping project and the laboratory CIRTEF-ESCOL of the University Paris 8, Saint Denis for the part of research that is carried out in France and the HEP network of the University of Patras for the part of research that is carried out in Greece.

The first ever report issued by the National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes set the University of Padova as the highest ranking among leading Italian Universities for the quality of its research results for the period 2004 – 2010. Based on the number of citations of articles and publications by its researchers (source: ISI), UNIPD ranks among the top three Italian universities for total impact index, productivity index, and presence index.

Participating Research Universities

Université Paris 8, Saint-Denis, France.

Founded as an experimental academic centre in Vincennes in 1969, Université Paris 8 moved to Saint-Denis in 1980.  The university has become a major teaching and research centre for humanities in the Île-de-France region. The main objective of Université Paris 8 – with its focus on humanities, human sciences, arts and social sciences has always been to give students a better understanding of the modern world while enabling them, at the same time, to achieve a long-term integration into society. The innovative nature of the research undertaken here can be traced back to the various fields studied at Université Paris 8. Our university became a pioneer in fields that were usually not approached by other French universities: psychoanalysis, urban planning, geopolitics, cinema, plastic arts, gender studies, etc. To this day, Université Paris 8 has always insisted on maintaining a strong link between research and teaching, adapting teaching methods to different kinds of audiences, and providing education for all at every stage of life.

Université Paris 8 provides initial training and continuing educational programmes as well as distance learning, in keeping with a tradition of multi-disciplinary teaching and the desire to link research and undergraduate as well as graduate courses. Actuellement, l’Université Paris 8 offre 33 “licence” degrees (undergraduate level), 77 “master’s” specialities (graduate level) and 50 university diplomas are available in six teaching areas: arts; culture and communication ; law, economics and management; humanities and languages; human and social sciences, science, technology and health.  Since its opening in 1968, Université Paris 8 Vincennes – Saint-Denis has put international relations at the core of its research and teaching activities.  With almost 200 cooperation agreements with foreign universities, and with its numerous foreign scholars, Université Paris 8 defines itself as a “World University” focusing on the analysis of the challenges of the contemporary world and on the exploration of cultural diversity. 157 nationalities are represented in the student body.  Université Paris 8 has partnerships with numerous foreign higher education institutions. It also actively participates in a number of major international programmes such as the ERASMUS exchange programme for European universities, and the CREPUQ programme with Quebec, which concerns French-speaking universities.  The agreements signed by Université Paris 8 are of limited duration, and pursue different objectives depending on its partner universities: research involving the faculty of the various universities, international conferences and joint publications, study periods for students in the partner universities, development of curricula and courses involving international partnerships, delocalisation of the degrees, etc.  The role of the international relations office is to provide decision-making bodies with information concerning development opportunities abroad and assistance to faculty members wishing to work with foreign partners, as well as to students who want to complete their curriculum, or find an internship abroad (we call this “student mobility”).

For the needs of the Re-mapping project, we collaborate specifically with the laboratory CIRCEFT-ESCOL which specializes essentially on the topics of social and school processes reproducing school inequalities (social, sexual and territorial), on the politics and tools aiming the reduction of the above mentioned inequalities, and on the experience of students and teachers in “defavorised” contexts. The laboratory CIRCEFT-ESCOL uses theoretical underpinnings from Human and Social Sciences (sociology, political sciences, didactics, psychology, language sciences) and is composed by 20 professors-researchers and 50 PhD students.

The University of Patras promotes its international policy through the cooperation with universities and research institutions worldwide. Cooperation includes activities related to reasearch, teaching, intensive programmes and the development of common curricula, establishment of bilateral agreements, as well as the participation in international organizations, networks and associations.

The University of Patras offers an exciting and dynamic Educational and Research Environment that provides students with high level Study Programs.  The University consists of five Schools, 24 Departments with Undergraduate Study Programs leading to a specific Degree. Furthermore, the University of Patras offers 47 Postgraduate Study Programs. One of the main objectives of the University of Patras is the creation of knowledge through the promotion of the scientific research. University’s research activity is supported by its workforce and the state-of-the-art infrastructure and represents the most significant factor for the improvement of Education and Learning. The University of Patras is significantly active in research and has a reputation for quality and innovative research. The University’s research activity is supported by its policies for the promotion of excellence and the creation of the appropriate research environment.

For the needs of the Re-mapping project we collaborate specifically with the Higher Education Policy Network (HepNet) of the University of Patras, which was founded in 2009 as an Intra-university Higher Education Policy Network, and evolved in 2011 by forming a three part network between the University of Patras, the University of Peloponnese and the University of Aegean.
